What can solar do for you?
SOLAR ENERGY, THE RIGHT THING TO DO!
The most common question we get is, " What are my cost savings per month?"
Let's start by asking you a couple of questions,
Question #1:What will the average homeowner pay over the next 30 years for their electric?
Take a $100 a month electric bill and multiply that by 12 and you get $1200 per year. Over the next 10 years given inflation you can expect to pay 16,579.74, and over the next thirty years you can expect to pay $113,352.94. Now stop and think if you want to be an energy buyer or an energy supplier? With solar electric energy you can be an energy supplier, and pocket this money! Not to mention the great environmental impacts solar has on our environment by reducing carbon emissions to the atmosphere.
Question #2: And what did your car or SUV cost?
When a person purchases a car or SUV, how long does that person own that vehicle? (Maybe 5-7 years)... What was the cost of that vehicle? (Maybe $20k-$30k)... And when the vehicle is traded in what is the cost then? (Maybe $5-$10k)? Now what is a new car warranty? I am sure you know that most are less then 5 years, unless you pay more for an extended plan.
A solar PV system, if installed right, will last many years and provide your home with a viable source of electric power that will give you a cost savings option that will last for many years. Most solar panel warranties are up to 25 years. While the cost of a PV system maybe slightly higher then a new SUV, stop to consider it is being purchased for your number one investment, your home, which will increase it's resale.
You must also stop to consider the great environmental rewards from owning your own solar PV system, one is far less emissions from your home to the environment! There are programs on the web which can determine if you install a PV system on your home, how much it will help all of us in the future by reducing sulfur dioxide, carbon dioxide, nitrous oxide.

Over its 35-year expected life, a 10 kW system will provide the equivalent CO2 reduction as planting 1450 trees. (Based on typical utility pollution, it will prevent emissions of 963,125 lbs of carbon dioxide, 4,237 lbs of sulfur dioxide, and 1,364 lbs of nitrogen oxides.) It will produce 575,000 kilowatt hours of electricity, as much as would be generated by burning 583,000 lbs of coal.
Environmental Impacts of this system
Prevent 3,843 pounds of carbon dioxide pollution
Prevent 10.6 pounds of sulfur dioxide pollution
Prevent 3.5 pounds of nitrous oxide pollution

2Kw "PAYBACK"
Below we have tried to provide you with brief example of a 2Kw system and what it can do for you. We hope this helps you to make an informed decision on your solar PV system purchase.
Payback Benefits
· Produces approximately 2100 kWhs per year of electric
· Saves about $230 annually, based on current utility pricing*
· Protects owner from rising energy costs for 35+ years
· Protects home from power outages (battery based systems)
· Without solar you are paying $0 return on investment to your utility
*11 cents per kWh; National Grid rates, Nov 2007
Benefits
- Energy prices are very volatile and are forcasted to rise over the long term, they are never going down, a solar electric system provides increased savings.
- The value of a solar PV system depreciates slowly over its long lifespan, so your system will still be an active investment years down the road
- Increases your property’s value ($5,000 for every $250 of annual electricity savings) without adding property taxes*
- The shade from a roof mounted solar electric system reduces the heating load on the building, thus reducing your air conditioning costs
- Produces maximum electric during peak grid hours, lessoning the strain on our electric grid
* According to studies by the National Appraisal Institute and Wells Fargo, and the Home Appraisers Journal show homes with solar power typically appreciate 20x’s the system’s annual savings.
Societal Benefits
- Protect the environment (climate change is beginning to wreak havoc all over the globe and worsens virtually all other environmental problems)
- Diversify energy supply; stabilizes markets and prices
- Increase independence from fossil fuel (especially from foreign sources)
- Economic health (cleaner energy is better for the economy)
- Local job creation
- Educational learning tool for students and facility
- Promotes future students who are interested in renewable energy technology
Environmental Benefits
- Eliminate 2,000 lbs of CO2 emissions annually
- Eliminate 8 lbs of Sulfur dioxide annually
- Eliminate 3 lbs of Nitrous oxide annually
- This is like planting 438 trees
Please note that this information will give you a fair honest projection on a 2Kw system that is not an energy smart or energy star home in New York State.
EXAMPLE #1 (Major energy usage)
Here is a consumer with an electric bill of $2000 for a year, and they install a 2Kw solar generating system.
- Have utility bill savings of $203 per year
- Meet 11% of current electricity consumption
- Produce/save 2,201 kWh of electricity in the first year
- Eliminate 3,695 lbs of CO2 emissions in the first year
EXAMPLE #2 (30% of US homes)
Here is a customer with an electric bill of $1500 per year, and what a 2Kw solar generating system can do for them.
- Have utility bill savings of $203 per year
- Meet 15% of current electricity consumption
- Produce/save 2,201 kWh of electricity in the first year
- Eliminate 3,695 lbs of CO2 emissions in the first year
EXAMPLE #3 (Energy Smart Home)
Here is another customer with an electric bill of $600 for a year, and also installs a 2Kw solar generating system. As you can see there is a huge difference in cost savings and what the 2Kw solar generating system can do for you.
- Have utility bill savings of $203 per year
- Meet 48% of current electricity consumption
- Produce/save 2,201 kWh of electricity in the first year
- Eliminate 3,695 lbs of CO2 emissions in the first year
